A major point for travellers is that Nahan does not have a railway station, and Sirmaur does not have a conventional broad-gauge railhead serving its district headquarters.

For much of Sirmaur, Himachal Tourism recommends Ambala and Chandigarh as convenient railheads. Barog and Solan stations on the Kalka-Shimla narrow-gauge line can also be useful for the Rajgarh side of the district.

For Nahan, Ambala Cantt Junction is one of the most practical major railway stations and is about 65 km by road from the district headquarters.

Indian Railways lists Ambala Cantt Junction under the Northern Railway, Ambala Division.

Ambala Cantt Railway Station Location
